Stop Smoking
There are many potential reasons people begin to smoke, such as stress, and family struggles, and there are also many reasons people seek to stop smoking. These include:
Health reasons
Financial reasons
For the health of their family
To improve fertility
To improve sense of taste and smell
To increase sports/physical fitness
To increase life quality and expectancy
- In 2015 it was estimated that of all adults in the UK, 17.2% smoked which had decreased significantly since 2010 when the figure was at 20.1%.
- The average cigarette consumption in the UK is 11.3 which is the lowest level since 1974!
- In 2015, 2.3 million people turned to e-cigarettes and this has become increasingly popular. Of these 2.3 million people, half used “vaping” as a method to help them become a non-smoker.
These statistics show how smoking has become less popular over time as people are becoming more aware over the serious hazard it poses to their health.
The reasons people begin and wish to stop smoking are as unique as we are as individuals and this is examined in your session. We will examine a variety of aspects all of which can contribute to why you currently smoke such as:
- times of the day you tend to smoke more
- places or situations in which you would usually smoke. For example, do you smoke more in social situations or when at work?
We look at aspects such as those above, among others, in order to establish your unique patterns as an individual. Smoking can be a learned habit and attempts to stop smoking can be made more difficult by the fact that you were once used to doing something and now it is gone. This causes the mind to focus more on smoking and so we can look at suitable alternative habits that make you happy and are not detrimental to your health.
Look at this as an opportunity to make real and positive changes to your life rather than just becoming a non-smoker.
So what are the steps you need to take?
